The program runs 20 weeks throughout the spring and summer at the site situated just outside of Melville. ☀️ Suncrest College Hosts CICan National Skills for Success Hackathon 🎉 On March 22 and 23, Suncrest proudly hosted the Colleges and Institutes Canada / Collèges et instituts Canada (CICan) National Skills for Success Hackathon, bringing together students from across Canada to collaborate on an innovative career pathway tool. Three Suncrest teams from Yorkton, Fort Qu’Appelle & Nipawin joined 34 teams nationwide to develop ideas that enhance workforce development. Though only six teams advanced to the final presentations, our students received incredible feedback from industry experts! We were honored to welcome Yann Martel, award-winning author of Life of Pi, for an inspiring talk with students, staff, and the community in Melfort. Thanks to Braden Olson, a former Suncrest College student and now a USask professor at Suncrest College, Martel joined us to share insights into his creative process, the deeper themes in his work, and how he explores life’s biggest questions - meaning, faith, and survival - through storytelling. Martel offered an insightful behind-the-scenes look at his writing, engaged in thoughtful conversation with attendees, and graciously signed books - making it an unforgettable experience for all who participated. 🌱💡 A Brighter, Greener Future at Suncrest College! 💡🌱 Our Applied Research team is making big strides in sustainability at the Trades and Technology Centre in Yorkton! 🚀 By upgrading 76 outdated light fixtures to energy-efficient LEDs, we’re not only reducing emissions but also dramatically improving visibility. ✨ The impact? ✅ 50% reduction in electricity use ✅ 35,620 kg fewer carbon emissions per year (that’s like taking six cars off the road!) ✅ $8,000 in annual energy savings ✅ Spaces are now 50% to 400% brighter, with an average increase of 786 lux!
