In the month of February, Parkland College issued T2202A Tuition and Enrolment Certificates to students who had studied at the College during the 2017 tax year. Unfortunately, most of the T2202A tax slips that were mailed out last month are incomplete.
Income tax schedule changes in 2017 altered the requirements for T2202As. These slips are now required to be issued in a new format that includes an additional breakdown of tuition and months.
If all your schooling was completed prior to July 1, 2017, then your T2202A slip is likely unaffected by these changes. However, if you have taken classes before and after July 1, 2017, or took classes starting after July 1, 2017, then it is likely you will need more details and an amended T2202A to complete your income tax return.
Parkland College is currently preparing amended T2202As for all students who are affected by these changes. The College will mail these revised tax slips likely within the next two weeks. If you require a detailed breakdown of your T2202A information prior to receiving your amended copy, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Important note: This does not mean that you are entitled to claim amounts on your T2202A slip. You still need to determine whether you are eligible to use it. Contact CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) if you have questions or seek advice from a tax professional.
