Parkland College Awards $47,000 in Scholarships to Local Students!

Yorkton, SK—On Tuesday, March 15th, Parkland College awarded $47,000 in scholarships to 51 students from across the east-central region at an awards ceremony held at the Painted Hand Casino in Yorkton.

The scholarship recipients are currently enrolled at one of the five Parkland College campuses in the region. This includes full-time courses in the University, Skills Training, and Adult Basic Education program areas. The scholarships awarded are in addition to the $35,000 in entrance scholarships previously awarded in September, 2010 and are made possible through the generous donations of local businesses and organizations, community members, and the Centennial Merit Scholarship Program. The purpose of the Parkland College scholarship initiative is to promote, encourage, and sponsor education and training for adults in our region. The Centennial Merit Scholarship Program is a matching program in which funds are provided on a dollar for dollar basis with local non-government donors. For every dollar raised locally, Saskatchewan Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration will match that dollar to support scholarships for high academic achievers.

Parkland College provides scholarships to local students pursuing post-secondary education. Contributions to the scholarship initiative help Parkland College maintain the ability to contribute to the education and training of residents in the Parkland area. The initiative positively impacts the lives of individuals and families, as well as communities and businesses within the Parkland region. This is the 14th year that Parkland College has awarded scholarships to students enrolled in full-time and part-time programs. The internal scholarship fund has grown from $1,500 in the first year to $47,000 this year and from 4 to 50 scholarships in university, trades, health, and business.
